My Annual Apology (What’s the Pont?)

Posted on December 4, 2017 by Chris Cane

I first posted this back in 2010. It is a little dated, but my apology in 2017 is much the same.

I’m afraid I don’t change much from year to year. Maybe next year I’ll change the introduction a little.

Please read on. I added the photo of the Pont Neuf so that the “What’s the pont?” pun might seem more in keeping with your mood!

The Pont Neuf (Paris)

The Pont Neuf (Paris)

A few years ago I was watching Tiger Woods on TV apologizing for his behavior and it made me start to think about my behavior and perhaps realize that that I too should apologize for my behavior and actions over the last year.

So here goes!

Over the past yar I realize how much I have offended some people because I have forwarded some inappropriate pictures and jokes to friends who I thought shared the same sense of humor, or that they had friends who would enjoy being forwarded said same piece.Unfortunately this wasn’t the case and I seem to have upset quite a few people who have accused me of being sexist, crude and shallow.  If you were one of these people, please accept my sincerest apologies. From now on I will only post or send e-mails with a cultural or educational content – such as classical art and architecture, nature and other interesting topics.  Below is a picture of the Pont Neuf Bridge in Paris .  It is the oldest bridge in Paris and took 26 years to build. It was completed in 1604.

It is the oldest bridge in Paris and took 26 years to build. It was completed in 1604. Why is it not called Pont Une or Pont Un. I don’t know the sex of a bridge. Of course Pont Une might sound like pontoon and then it would float, and we all know that bridges do not float. That would make it a ferry.

In reflection, I now realize now that Pont Neuf (Neuf in this case, an adjective) means New Bridge. This really doesn’t help me get de-confused. Why would the oldest bridge over the Seine be called New?

Where did she come from?

This is another Pont Neuf but in Toulouse. I think the young lady may be a little too loose as well.
